St George's Day Parade 2008
Parade Report – Kevin Lowe:
After the success of the 2007 Saint George’s Day Parade, it was decided that with more time to plan the event for 2008 it would be good to let the children march to the service at St James Church.

Despite all the careful planning the good weather did not turn up as was arranged but this did not seem to dampen the spirits of the children who were all keen and enthusiastic to start the march to St James Church. The Towers Business Park provided us with a safe location for the children to form up at and without this it would not have been possible to have held the march.

Visit to the Museum of Science and Industry
A report of our visit to the Museum of Science and Industry
Saturday 23rd March saw a gathering of 50 Beavers at the Museum of Science and Industry. Six Beaver colonies were represented out of the 10 in our district. Vicky Mike and Cat were the organisers. They had divided the time up into three sections, power, air and experiments. There was a questionnaire for power and air which meant that the Beavers had to find out a little about some of the displays in those areas. The group I was with was fascinated with pumping up water into a reservoir
using a hand pump to fill it, then pulling a chain to release the water over
a wheel which turned the wheel i.e. water power. They kept wanting to go
back to it and when we were in the experiment section they managed to find
the same experiment again.

First Muslim Scout Group opens in our district

After months of planning the first Muslim scout group in Manchester, 1st Noor, opened its Cub section recently.
Amina Osman, the 24-year-old Leader said ‘We share the hopes of mainstream Scouting in that we want to help these kids reach their full potential as individuals and citizens.’ She continued ‘When you think about it the fundamental principles of Scouting are the fundamental principles of Islam. The children are encouraged to love other people and respect other people. I’m really proud of my group – all the boys and girls who are so eager to come. I hope we are the face of Scouting for the Centenary, Cub Scouts 2007!’
